The Round Up: May/June 2024
Well gosh the spring and early summer got away from me! And half of July is gone already too, but since I make the rules around here, I’ve decided I’m going to do Summer round-ups in 2. May/June and July/August as these are four VERY full months for me and as I’m sharing this at almost the end of July - this checks out. I hope everyone has been having full, exciting, fun and safe summers so far. Vermont flooded again this month and Montana is on fire to a point where exersizing outside isn’t safe at the moment so things are feeling a bit bleak for Mother Nature. So I’m hunkered down in the basement where it isn’t 100 degrees to catch up with you.
Books: Top 5:
Iris Kelly Doesn't Date by Ashley Herring Blake
Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt
The Road by Cormac McCarthy
Crow Talk by Eileen Garvin
The Phoenix Crown by Kate Quinn & Janie Chang
Art: I’ve been rather obsessed with taking photos of wildflowers. They are popping up all over the place everywhere I’ve been lucky enough to travel and I’ve been loving using my new little travel camera to capture them.
Knits: I made note one, but three Sophie Scarfs by Petite Knit and it’s a darling little knit kerchief that I cast on a second the minute I finished the first. I’m also almost finished a Thea Top which I’m knitting in cotton - something I rarely do but it felt like a fun summer project. I’m hoping to finish it before summer is over.
Food: To be honest I’ve been on the road so much and it’s been so hot that I haven’t been doing a lot of cooking lately… just the same few meals I always make over and over again. I definitely worship the ground the Sweet Simones Oreos walk on... if you're ever in Richmond, VT give them a try! Hoping to have something a bit more exciting for you next time.
Physical: I set a goal this summer of running one 5k per week all summer long. I’ve done 5 so far and this might be the first week I need to skip because it’s so smokey and I refuse to run on a treadmill and I have a big bike race coming up this weekend in Whitefish, MT that I’m actually doing with my sister - so I’m saving myself for that and having grace that all goals don’t have to be perfect. Like this very overdue newsletter!
Work Things: Goodness I’ve had a very full spring! I went to Camp Strava in LA, had two Teva shoots in Montana, shot and wrote two Cabot stories in Vermont, shot my first engagement session in a hot minute… photographed a 200 mile gravel bike race in Kansas, a food Mercantile in Oregon, a women's mountain bike festival in VT and attended two film festivals with my film Able. - Bicycle Film Festival in Bend, OR and Bentonville Film Festival in Arkansas. SPEAKING OF WHICH!
Able. Is having it’s Montana premiere this Thursday night at FreeCycles in Missoula at 7:30 pm and will be available to the World Wide Web on Friday! I’m so excited to finally be able to share this piece with the world.
Thanks for your support - kindness and patience! So many good things coming to this space this fall and I’m grateful to have you here!
XO
Gretchen
